That awkward moment when personal life experiences require your reflection and reaction towards advice that you have already given others. That moment when I “forgot” my stance on a topic and had to readdress my previous writings in order to ensure that I am not sending hypocritical messages. It happens. And the fact that I have already addressed the topic allows me to confirm my beliefs on certain things. Sometimes, as I re-read my old blog entries, I am fully enlightened. It’s as if I have learned something entirely new.
What many people do not understand is that self-discovery works in two parts. Self-discovery does not only encompass knowing who you are, it also involves remembering who you were. Everyone was raised with a certain set of values and morals. These values may span different ethnic, cultural, or religious grounds, but all in all, this foundation is something that we can refer back to when contemplating life decisions.
For me, blogging helps me remember who I am. For others, it may be music, dance, art, or sports. Regardless, this task, routine, or habit becomes a part of you that you are able to remain true to. It is also a part of you that you can trust. In doing these things, you should be able to remain completely 100 with yourself. This is why when I publish to my blog, I can be certain that if I reference my blog later, I can trust that my insight back then would be relevant to me now.
On the path to self-discovery, find an aspect about yourself that helps you to remember who you are so that on those days you seem to lose yourself, you can reference back to that dependable task, routine, or habit and find stability. Make sure that the aspect of life you choose is an avenue that you allow yourself to be VULNERABLE in (most dreaded word). If you do not allow yourself to completely let go through your art, music, or whatever you deem, then you are not being honest to yourself in that present time and your reflection on it later will be skewed.
Vulnerability is another blog entry in itself, but in the meantime, work on discovering that aspect of yourself that you can be free through. Have you already found that aspect? What is it?
